Crafting Your Place: Writing Small and Writing Naked

Join AWG online for our January program with Lorna Rose, "Crafting Your Place: Writing Small and Writing Naked."

Ever want to write about big issues but don’t know where to start? From a divorce to a social justice issue to a complicated relationship, it can be difficult to begin writing about something big. Join us as we discuss how to write small about big things. We’ll dive into some prose and poetry about “small things,” talk about why vulnerability is important in writing, and how to show it. This workshop includes writing prompts, and is geared toward new poets and writers of nonfiction, although everyone is welcome. Bring a notebook and writing utensil.

“The bigger the issue, the smaller you write. Remember that. You don’t write about the horrors of war. No. You write about a kid’s burnt socks lying on the road. You pick the smallest manageable part of the big thing, and you work off the resonance.” -Author Richard Price
