A. We’re aiming to update our website, merge membership lists, determine the starting budget, and combine boards by January 1, 2027
Q. Are there Bylaws for the new organization?
A. Yes. They will be linked to this page as soon as they're ready.
Q. Who will be on the first board of directors?
A. According to the bylaws, board member terms last two years. To fill openings, the board calls for applications and outgoing and current board members select replacements from the applicant pool. In 2027, Current AWG and 49 Writers board members who want to stay involved will be part of the inaugural board. If you want to join the Board of Directors, stay tuned. The board will call for applications for new board members in 2027.
Q. Will I need to pay dues to Alaska Writers if I’ve already paid my annual membership dues to AWG or 49 Writers?
A. Your current memberships will be honored by Alaska Writers. We’re using the same membership software, so you’ll stay on your current renewal schedule.
Q: Will the cost of membership dues increase?
A: The current AWG and 49 Writers boards will determine the starting budget and whether the price of dues will increase. If an increase is necessary, we’ll try to keep it small.
Q. Will any membership benefits end as a result of the recent merger?
A. All the same benefits are available, including discounts on paid workshops and conference fees, free entries into the writing contests, and member news features in the newsletter.
Q. Will any of Alaska Writers’ events be free?
A. Alaska Writers will continue AWG’s traditionally free events, such as writing group meetings, holiday parties, summer gatherings, and lectures. These will remain free and open to the public.
