If you are a writer, or are interested in learning to be one, Community Writers Group and the Interior Chapter of the Alaska Writers Guild are hosting their annual summer Writers Potluck. Not only are literary agents an essential partner in the traditional publishing community, they are super-fans, career coaches, and mentors. Anjanette Barr will explain why agents are necessary, what they actually DO for authors, and how to find the right agent for your project. She'll definitely attempt to convince you that literary agents are much more than just annoying gatekeepers, but her primary goal will be to give you all the information that you need to decide for yourself whether a literary agent is the advocate you need, and how to find one.

Bikewriting Workshop

Jovi de la Jara is a writer from Chile and PhD Student at the Creative Writing in the Spanish program of the University of Houston. As part of his creative project, he'll be biketouring/bikepacking with his dog Miño from Alaska to México, starting this May. During this trip he'll write some travel pieces for his dissertation, and share with communities along the way.

Join Jovi, Miño, Fairbanks Cycling Club (FCC), and Alaska Writers Guild (AWG) for a workshop about biking, writing, and our relationship with the world. The workshop will consist of a relaxed community ride around the city in bike-friendly areas followed by a workshop session in which participants write about the experience using prompts, exercises and readings.

The activity is free and open to the public. Tips toward Jovi and Mino's trip are appreciated. Register for free!

Meet with your bike in front of the Centennial Center on Saturday, June 27, at 4:00 pm for the group bike ride followed by the writers workshop in the Bear Gallery.
